What is the point??

So yesterday was the first time I’ve ever just given up on my homework.  I am in a class called “Applied Business Research and Statistics”. I worked on this homework Sunday, yesterday during my lunch break, and a few hours last night.  I realize it’s a part of the MBA program and therefore, should be a bit challenging, but COME ON!!!!!!  This is absolutely ri-damn-diculous.

Let me give you a couple examples:

And those are the easy ones.  The really challenging “z table” type graph crap was in a weekly Math Lab…kinda sounds like Meth Lab, huh?  But I guess when you complete an assignment, it closes it off for good and I can’t get back in it to show you an example.

Either way, and I know this is going to sound like a whiny teenager in the tenth grade but, what is the point?  I will never be at work and someone will say to me, “Hey, out of all the people aged 25-40 in this division, what do you think the probability that the next person to walk through that door will be 32?”

I would calmly look at that person and say, “who gives a * and just sit here a minute to find out”.  Geez.  Much simpler and quicker than plotting and shading a graph and figuring out BS z tables.  What the hell is a z table anyway?  Is there a-y tables or are we being discriminatory?  There’s the next lawsuit….on behalf of A-Y I’m suing for negligence!

You can see this class is making me a bit loopy.  And everytime I think of how much I’m paying for this treatment…well, let me get on with my Tuesday.  If you have any funny math examples that make me forget my troubles, please post them in a comment here….and thanks for cheering me up!

  1. Oh I know the answer, it’s *coughmumblemumblecoughcoughmumblemumble* ;-)

I did see one that had a triangle. One side was {a}, another was {b} and then X, and underneath it said “Find X” someone had ringed it, and said “There it is” ;-)

    1. Hahaha, I saw that too and thought it BRILLIANT!

  2. A very valid point, Jill. All I can say is keep on pushing yourself to complete this. My wife has her masters degree in business admin with a concentration on health care. She went through hell during the schooling which was done at home online, and I can tell you this as I witnessed her going through it. It was VERY difficult. However, it has paid off well for her in terms of career advances. You CAN do this.

    1. Thank you John. I’m so happy for your wife…please pass on my kudos to her and let her know I’m following in her footsteps! :)

  3. As your momma… go do your homework and suck it up hahahah. Now, if I didn’t have a Master’s I would say: Poor baby, those horrible teachers.. who do they think they are treating my baby that way…. she is too smart to fall for this “stuff”… just give her the darn paper degree so we can hang it up somewhere and oh yeah,,, you need to be paying her to do all this work, she is not cheap you know. hahah. It will be over soon… very soon… then you can tell everyone else trying to get a Master’s to suck it up. haha. We are an elite group. :0)

  4. Don’t forget, you will always run into the jerk who says: You have an MBA? I hear those are pretty easy to get.
You can smile and say: Yeah, it was easy…why don’t you pursue yours?
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

You got this sweetie…YOU REALLY ARE PAST THE THREE QUARTER POINT…GO GIRL GO.

    1. hahaha, good point!! Thanks Dad….and YOU GO BOY on your 2nd Masters degree…you amaze me!

  5. As a teacher, I always try to make sure my homeowrk makes sense. My husband is in school now, and his work looks a lot like yours. Nonsense. I say this as my little girl is working on completing the three summer book reports no one in 4th grade will ever read, along with 3 of the STUPIDEST math problems I have ever seen. (And I am a math teacher!) Hang in there!

    1. Thank you! Glad to hear from a teacher who believes in LOGIC. And on your daughter’s summer reading…the part that bothers me is when school starts they won’t be tested right away. They either read it aloud in class for those who didn’t get it done or they give time for everyone to read during class. What’s the point of SUMMER READING???

  6. you have my sympathies…

    1. Thanks Susan…I need them. Hahaha…

  7. Sorry no examples for you. I don’t do math, it makes my head hurt.

    1. I don’t even believe this is REAL math, hahaha.

  8. You are one very lucky girl to have the mother you do…(Linda.) You do need that class because without it, there would be no meaning in a Master Program!

    1. haha yeah, what she said… hah Thanks asklotta!

    2. You got that right asklotta!!!! And thank you.

Tell me....dish...lemme know...
