Another WTH question…

Ok, so I’ve had this WTH question for quite some time when it comes to sports, but last night?  O.  M.  G.  It broke my heart to watch poor little ol’ Jordyn Wieber.  As they completed the last apparatus in gymnastics (floor), she found out her overall score for the night was not in the top two of the USA team.  That means she does not get to participate in the individual all-around.  A dream this current World Champion has had her entire little life and what she has trained so hard for all these years.  As we say in the South “Bless her heart ya’ll”.  Seriously.  Who knew the real competition of the night was not USA against all others, but USA girls against each other?

And then…as the truth sinks in and she realizes her every individual dream of being the best of the best is shattered……..she sobs…….rightfully so, if you ask me……and what happens next??

WTH……..you want to interview her?  Are you kidding me?  Leave the poor kid alone and let her grieve in peace.  Talk to her tomorrow.  I turned the TV off, I couldn’t bear to watch so I don’t know if they got their interview or not, but it always goes the same. “So, (insert Athlete’s name), you’ve just lost everything you’ve trained for…your life is shattered (insert and you’ve had five seconds to grasp the meaning of it)….so how does that make you feel?”

HOW DO YOU THINK THEY FEEL???

Give her tissues and go away reporters…

  1. OMG … I feel the SAME EXACT way. Totally annoys me when they do this. They did this with another athlete (can’t remember who it was at the moment), but I was so annoyed, I too shut off the TV. I wanted to punch the reporter in the face. LOL!

    1. Yeah…and then when they’re crying with the new shiny black eye…ASK THEM HOW THEY FEEL!!! LOL

      1. RIGHT?? So enraging. I always think if that were my daughter, they’d have some interesting report since I would probably jump the reporter, live. Just kidding … sort of! Uhhhh! These reporters are the worst.

        1. Oh yeah, I hadn’t thought about it in the Mom perspective….oh, that would not be good, not good at all. :)

          1. LOL … definitely not. :)

  2. Great post! Amen. I was so sad for her.

    1. Me too, the poor kid. Thanks for stopping by…:)

  3. I didn’t want to watch them interview her either…..my heart broke for her watching her cry like that…..just wanted to give that kid a hug

    1. Good idea Lisa…hugs from all of us!!

  4. I must admit, when they are asked that question, the restraint they show is incredible. My answer would be “How the ****ing hell do you think I ****ing think I feel you stupid ****?” Do the reporters say to each other “Let’s have a laugh, let’s see who can annoy someone and make them lose their temper on live tv”

    1. Lol, they really do a good job, I agree. I just wish the reporters would wait until the next day and then I’m sure the athlete will do even better talking about their shattered dreams. :)

  5. Media… journalists… hahahahah!

Ambulance chasers in their own right. Trust me, I used to be one!

    1. Ambulance chasers in their own right, LOVE IT. That’s so much more appropriate. I always had trouble calling them reporters, but would never call them journalists!! (And no worries about your past, you have overcome and been forgiven…hahaha)

  6. Here’s what I think (and this is partly from experience) “suck it up” – this is what being semi pro is all about. It only gets more serious and harder and more public. You aren’t the best, at some point you would have realized this, because you can’t be the best in any sport FOREVER. There is no crying in sports! Especially not in an international competition. This girl has been competing in public for years and picks now to have a hissy? *shakes head*

    1. Wow, suck it up seems to be a bit harsh and there is crying in sports……all the time from both women in men. I’m not sure how you see this in the same light as “semi-pro” or even “pro”. Those people compete all the time for matches that just don’t matter as much as the two week Olympic events, like baseball with their 100 games per year. These gymnasts for the most part are kids…kids who have trained day in and day out for years for this one moment. And they know they can’t be the best FOREVER…this was their shot at being the best Olympian when they know they won’t be back in four years. And you call it a hissy? I find that unbelievably heartless. Competing in public and competing in the Olympics…two totally different things. You’re not a reporter, are you? :)

  7. Here’s another thing that gets me — we, as women, want to be taken seriously as competitors and athletes and commentators… and then we get upset when we are treated the same as men?

    1. I’m not sure what you mean, but if it’s about the crying…have you not seen men cry in sports? I’ve seen just as many men cry during these Olympic Games as women, so let’s not make it into something it’s not.

  8. Amen, And when they fall on their ass, NBC doesn’t have to show it over and over and over!

Tell me....dish...lemme know...
