End of Day Thirteen…
What a difference a day makes…9 medals given out to Americans yesterday, 5 of them gold, and we have finally taken a solid lead in the medal count.
We got four of those medals (2 gold, 2 silver) in the men’s decathlon and triple jump. One of our girls got a gold in boxing (C. Shields), our women’s soccer (football) team got the gold over Japan, we got a silver in the women’s marathon swimming event (H. Anderson), a bronze in men’s taekwondo (T. Jennings), and our men got the gold in water polo!
What an awesome Olympic day for the USA…congrats winners!
Happy Bloggin’ Ya’ll!!
End of Day Six…

USA teams were taking care of business on day six. In some very highly anticipated events Gabby got the Gold in the women’s gymnastics individual all around, Phelps and Lochte got Gold and Silver respectively in a much awaited matchup, so with those and some others great medal achievements on day six, we finally took the medal count lead.
I don’t expect to lose the lead with track and field events coming up, but we shall see. GO USA!!
Happy Bloggin’ Ya’ll!
End of Day Five…
Well day five has been alot like days three and four…roller coaster rides!! Men’s gymnastics held individual all arounds and I couldn’t be more sad for John Orozco and his family. The games haven’t been great for him and the pommel horse appears to hate all Americans
BUT, congrats to Danell Leyva for recovering enough to gain a bronze…way to go Danell!!!
Also on the upside and more consistent then other sports, swimming athletes have once again gotten the job done!!! Among the USA wins were golds for Nathan Adrian and the women’s team in the 4×200.
And aren’t we all glad to not be among those disqualified in badminton?!! Maybe they’ll call me up now for my Olympic moment…I’m available!!!
Here’s the medal count as of day five…no worries China, we’ll catch up and surpass you in track and field, if not sooner! GO USA!
End of Day Four…
Much better Olympic day for the USA!! The women’s gymnastics was just…well, spectacular, so huge congratulations to them especially after such an emotional ride on Sunday. True testament to the professionalism and determination these little tiny girls have for their sport and their country!!
And then let’s talk about Michael Phelps…yes, HE DID IT! Michael has now won more medals than ANYONE in the history of the Olympic Games. Congrats Mr. Phelps!
Another great day of competition over…see you tomorrow all and thanks for keeping up with me. Here’s the medal count:
It won’t let me add pix from the laptop, so here’s the best I can do right now sorry!
Country Gold Silver Bronze Total
China 13 6 4 23
USA 9 8 6 23
Japan 1 4 8 13
France 4 3 4 11
Happy Bloggin’ Ya’ll!
End of Day Three…
The good, the bad, and the ugly. That’s what happened today for the good ol’ US of A. The good really was great with Missy Franklin and Matt Grevers gaining Gold in swimming, while Team Captain Rebecca Soni earned a Silver…..and I heard we got a bronze in Judo and a bronze in men’s synchonized diving, but the bad and the ugly happened in the gymnastics arena. Wow, what a disappointing round for our guys and so very shocking. Congrats to China, Japan (questionable ending), and Great Britain for being able to make it to the podium…especially GB! It’s been so long since GB has medaled in gymnastics, the commentators said there’s not a person alive who saw their previous medal win. What do you say over there…good day mate….bloody awesome gent…something along those lines, I believe.
But to check out the gymnastics drama of why the Japanese team went from no medal to Silver, Great Britain went from Silver to Bronze, and the poor Ukraine went from Bronze to nothing within a five minute timeframe, read this Sports Illustrated Article…and then send all your well wishes to the USA gymnasts….you’ve still got individuals guys!! HANG IN THERE!!
Meanwhile, here are the medal standings after three days……..
End of Day One…
Very exciting stuff happening in London today and as a true fan of any Olympics, I’m certainly enjoying this one so far. NBC is really doing a great job of playing only the Olympic Games except for local news, so that helps, and I’m very grateful for the uninterrupted coverage.
Ryan Lochte started off his swimming races with a Gold for the USA and the men’s gymnastics team had an excellent beginning…when coverage ended a few minutes ago, they were the team leading with one or two more teams still to go. So far, so good USA!!
But here’s the REAL DEAL of the day, and Ladies you will appreciate this one………do we not have the cutest athletes in the Games?? I believe so, check these out (ignore the medal count photo, it refuses to come out of there and can you blame it considering the company it is keeping??)…can we get the Gold for hotness?

(There are more than this, but I only listed the countries with three or more medals) Happy Bloggin’ Ya’ll!
It’s not TOO LATE…I CAN still become an Olympian?
In honor of the Olympics beginning FRIDAY, I’m reposting this one (one of my all time favorite posts)…and gearing you all up for the barrage of information I plan on posting concerning the USA’s efforts in the 2012 Olympics. I am so excited and just can’t stand it. I plan on giving Bob Costas a run for his money as the most informative method of following the USA and their paths to gold. Bring it on peeps….LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
And for my Hunger Games buddies….may the odds be ever in your favor! U-S-A…U-S-A….U-S-A!!
As some of you may have noticed, I posted a countdown clock to the right of this blog. Yes, this is for the Olympics! I am a huge fan of everything olympical (new word?) and am very excited for the summer Olympics to commence.
As I did the research for this piece, I was elated to find out that my days of possibly becoming a gold medalist are not behind me! SHOCKING, I KNOW! I assumed my ripe old age had eliminated me from even dreaming of the medal ceremony…being at the top of the podium….right hand over heart…gold medal hung loosely around my neck…looking up as the beautiful flag of the United States is raised in triumph…the National Anthem playing in the background (not mouthing the words in case I get it wrong)…tears in my eyes as I so proudly represent my country…well, one can dream, right??!
And as I searched the “2012 London” website, the list of sports caught my eye…oh, the possibilities are ENDLESS…here are each sport with my thoughts as to whether or not I could try out!
Archery (hmmm, how hard could it be? Katniss made it look easy)
Badminton (GAME ON! I think I could do this one)
Basketball (5’4”?…umm, no)
Beach Volleyball (I don’t like sand in my…umm, shorts?)
Boxing (might break a nail)
Canoe – Slalom and Sprint (the fact that I can’t even recognize slalom and sprint canoeing probably eliminates me from these)
Cycling – BMX, Mountain, Road, and track (I haven’t even had enough guts to buy an exercise bike)
Diving (all that twisting and turning would make me puke mid-air…judges probably wouldn’t appreciate that)
Equestrian (hmm…me…horse…jumping…together? How do I hang on?)
Fencing (ugly outfit)
Football (I think they mean soccer…all that running? Ummm, no thanks)
Gymnastics – Artistic and Rhythmic (those days are LONG gone!)
Handball (doesn’t that hurt?)
Hockey (I prefer my teeth stay in my mouth)
Judo (hahahahahahahaha!)
Modern Pentathlon – fencing, swimming, riding (a horse), shooting (a gun!), and running (again with the running, ugh!)
Rowing (by myself? Or can I sit at the top and yell ROW?)
Sailing (by myself? Or can I sit at the top and yell SAIL?)
Shooting (not sure they’d trust me with a gun)
Synchronized Swimming (I can’t even get the kids to synchronize their schedules)
Table Tennis (if they promise to hit it softly and aim it towards my paddle)
Track and Field (running AND jumping? Why don’t they just hold a separate Olympics for runners?)
Trampoline (WTH? This is an Olympic sport?? I can jump on a trampoline!)
Triathlon – swimming, biking, running (oy vey with the running already!! Add a gun we could combine this with the Modern Pentathlon…work smarter, not harder)
Volleyball (can I serve underhanded?)
Water Polo (wouldn’t want to drown the horse)
Weightlifting (see Judo)
Wrestling (I don’t really want to be touched by someone wearing that onesie type outfit)
Ok, so maybe my choices aren’t really ENDLESS, but there are a few…which are a few more than I thought I could do. Are you as shocked by this list as I am? We booted out baseball and softball, but have BMX biking and badminton? And all that freakin’ running…my goodness. Usually when I think of running, the most important part to me is the music on the Ipod. I just don’t see a lot of Ipod’s during Olympic events. That’d be a good commercial though, huh?
What about you? What are your favorite parts of the Olympics?
