What’d I miss??

I love my friends, family, followers, readers…You all are not shy and when I’ve missed something, you don’t hesitate to send me a message or post a comment and I appreciate it.  Yesterday I got two messages telling me that there is Olympic activity out there that I am missing!  WHAT??

Sure enough…Soccer began yesterday and I had no idea.  I’ve been posting schedules, downloading apps, reading the news, and I still don’t really know what’s going on.  I just went out to find the results of the soccer games that have been played so far and would you believe they were kind of hard to find?  But, I did get my hands on the info and here it is:

Soccer Update:

Women:  USA defeated France 4-2

GB defeated New Zealand 1-0

Men:  Honduras playing Moracco right now!

(Other matches for men’s soccer today: Mexico vs. South Korea, United Arab Emirates vs. Uruguay, Great Britain vs. Senegal and Belarus vs. New Zealand)

Now, please keep in mind that I do realize USA Basketball has been involved in Olympic games already, but there are so many in the basketball series that I will wait to update everyone when we get down to the nitty gritty.  :)   Soccer’s probably the same, but we shall see.

Happy Bloggin’ ya’ll!

An Olympic size app…

The statement “there’s an app for that” has become an immediate reaction when people are trying to figure out how to do things and keeping up with the Olympics is no different.  The joy of the “Apple Cloud” is that things automatically download to my Apple product when anyone else under the same cloud downloads an app.  Yay me.  I get apps without even looking for them…but since my Apple product doesn’t have the most memory, well I usually delete the bonus apps that randomly appear.

But not today!!

The App Fairy has brought me several Olympic Apps.  Let’s check them out, shall we?

“TEAM USA”…this one has highlighted Olympians and posted tweets while it counts down the “Road to London”.  Looks like it covers the Paralympic as well as the Olympics, so that’s nice, and a donate button, which I’m sure will come in handy.  These kids sacrifice so much for their dream and usually don’t have much money until after the Olympics when sponsors come out of the woodwork, but that’s only if they do well in London.  Meanwhile, they stay broke.  This App also has a section for the schedule of events and a “latest news” area.  I’ll be sure to check this one daily in case I miss anything on TV.  :)

The second app that appeared is “LONDON 2012, RESULTS”…this one looks to be great for keeping up with medals.  We all know it’s important for our favorite athletes to get the gold, but we also know how Bob Costas reports which countries have obtained which medals and if I recall, USA does pretty well overall in the summer olympics.  With this app, it looks like I can get achievement updates at any time. And the bonus of this app?  It boasts a section on “Athletes” where I can see who has a birthday that day.  Fun!!

The third and last app the fairy sent me last night is called “NBC OLYMPICS”…but unfortunately, is having trouble actually downloading. Could be my memory issue or I could immediately blame it on NBC since I’m competition for their regular reporting stars!  They’re scared of this blog…LOL.  Well, I’ll have to tell you about this app later, if it ever works.  I imagine it’s like the others, but will let you know.

In the meantime, I wanted to post a schedule of events, but it appears as if that’s a difficult thing to obtain.  I’ve searched the main sites and even tried to get a TV schedule for those in the US, but a downloadable version just isn’t readily available.  So, let’s hightlight a few of the favorites:

Gymnastics:  July 28 – starts off with the men – and final medals are given 07 August

(and yes, since the Olympics are in London, the viewing time for the US to see it live is usually between 5 and 9 am, so set the coffee pot to automatic and rise and shine cupcake, America needs your support!)

Swimming:  July 28 – 10 August – There are a bunch of races during this entire time for swimmers, roughly ten every day, they can even medal that very first day…but for USA, the viewing times begin around 4 am!!

Diving:  July 29 – 11 August – Looks like there is one major event in Diving per day…and lucky for us, they will be aired live beginning at 9 am! Not sure if that is eastern or central time, but it says “my time” and I’m in central…so we’ll see.  This is another event that starts off with a bang allowing medals to be given out that very first day.

Track & Field:  If I’m reading the schedule correctly, the track and field events do not begin until August 3rd, but are jammed packed with up to 20 different events per day…

So, here it is Wednesday with opening ceremonies Friday…….I’m ready……….are you??
